Metal can take itself far too seriously. From the grimaced faces, to the folded arms and the all black wardrobes, Metal is typically a punch straight to the gut. But, as we are all aware, there is a lot of comedy, whether intended or not, to be found in the world of Metal. Many bands have attempted to poke fun of themselves and the genre they love, but only few have done so successfully... S.O.D, GWAR, GREEN JELLÖ, ANAL CUNT, MACABRE, SCHNAUZER, and a great many DEVIN TOWNSEND incarnations come to mind. There is another band that needs to be added to that list.
Highly overlooked and criminally underrated, MAGGOT TWAT, Chicago's Metal equivalent to the Blues Brothers, have been entertaining those that have been fortunate enough to be paying attention since 1998. After a 2 year hiatus, the band are back, this time in the capable arms of newly spawned label, SEEING RED RECORDS, to dazzle and amaze crowds with their hair-raising riffage and zany antics. Devastatingly heavy at moments and ridiculous all the time, MAGGOT TWAT have devised a way to construct well written and creative tunes while all the while sounding like they just broke out of a mental institution.
To celebrate the return of the 'TWAT, SEEING RED RECORDS, is re-releasing an extremely limited number of the band's cult classic, "8 BIT APOCALYPSE," with new packaging and featuring a brand new track.
"The name, as memorable as it is, may have somehow slipped under your radar. With live shows that may include a sawzall eating through a guitar, bouncing ball sing-a-longs, and tin foil masks, MAGGOT TWAT always makes sure you have a good time. They play riff-heavy, fast metal laced with cartoon and video game soundbites. Their lyrics are akin to the funniest parts of a sexual deviant’s personal journal. With two albums under their belt, “Stuffed Animal Orgy” and “8-Bit Apocalypse”, the band is still pissing on metal’s serious attitude in a manner that hasn’t been celebrated since the days of S.O.D. and Anthrax. They are showing fans that metal can be talented and entertaining, but still be funny."
